WWE News: Carmella cashes in MITB Briefcase becoming SmackDown Live Women's Champion
What's the story?
On the post-WrestleMania 34 SmackDown Live Carmella successfully cashed in her Money in the Bank contract against Charlotte, pinning her in the ring and becoming the new SmackDown Live Women's Champion.
In case you didn't know...
Carmella has broken several records already, she's the longest reigning Money in the Bank Contract holder in history and the winner of the first ever and second Women's Money in the Bank Match.
The heart of the matter
Charlotte took to the ring to talk about ending Asuka's streak at WrestleMania 34 but was interrupted by the debuting Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, now known as the Iconics on the main roster.
The pair proceeded to attack Charlotte, and leave her laying low in the middle of the ring.
As Royce and Kay made their exit from the ring, Carmella's music hit and she rang down to the ring to cash in her briefcase.
Charlotte was too beaten down from the attack leading to Carmella easily pinning the 'Queen' and becoming new SmackDown Live Women's Champion.
The moment received an incredibly long build up including a fairly farcical moment where the referee seemed confused and delayed the cash-in.
But when all was said and done Charlotte was left dejected in the ring and Carmella was gloating.
What's next?
After defending her title against Asuka at WrestleMania there didn't seem to be anyone left for Charlotte to feud with given that she'd just ran through Natalya and the Riott Squad.
However in the blink of an eye Charlotte now seemingly has three women to overcome in her quest to regain the title she didn't lose fairly.
Author's take
What a moment this was! The crowd were chanting for Carmella when Peyton Royce and Billie Kay were dismantling Charlotte on the outside and she received a huge pop when she appeared and another huge pop when her briefcase cash-in was officially announced.
'The Princess of Staten Island' is the new champion of SmackDown Live, let's see how long she can hang on to the title for.
