Change in plans for Sami Zayn, Status update, NXT Title Match
Sami Zayn debuted in RAW this Monday against WWE United States Champion John Cena in a match that saw Bret Hart’s involvement. Zayn went to lose the match but got over as a big star in front of an audience where it was considered a lock that they would react in a big way for him
However this was not meant to be his full- time debut on the main roster, yet he was scheduled to wrestle in this week’s Smackdown. But due to the injury suffered at RAW, Smackdown had to be written without the former NXT Champion.
There is no official word in his status, but one source noted to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that it appeared to be serious. There also appears to be some locker room talk on Tuesday night that Zayn would be out of action for a few months. Two other sources from the WWE said that they had not received a report from the doctor yet.
If Zayn is out for a few months, then they would have to nix his match against NXT Champion Kevin Owens at Takeover: Unstoppable on May 20th. This could lead to Finn Balor or Hideo Itami who would face Tyler Breeze in a #1 Contender’s Triple Threat that night, getting a shot at Owens.
