Charlotte Flair: 5 things you should know
In only four short years, Charlotte Flair has cemented herself as one of the greatest female wrestlers in history. The daughter of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, Charlotte has built an equally impressive resume. Her successes include nine world championships and making history as part of the first all-female main event at WrestleMania.
Fans know the wrestler, but many don't know Charlotte Flair the person. Flair opened up on a recent edition of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia and revealed 5 Things You Should Know About Charlotte Flair.
#5. She wouldn't be where she is today without Dusty Rhodes
Dusty Rhodes was legendary for his feud with Charlotte's father, Hall of Famer Ric Flair. The two men were opposites, diametrically opposed at every end of the spectrum. Ric Flair was flashy, clad in expensive silk robes, riding in limousines, and easy on the eyes. Dusty was a heavyset man, the pot-bellied son of a plumber who pontificated about sleeping in alleys and dining on pork and beans. The two legends battled for NWA supremacy in the 1980s and will forever be linked throughout wrestling history.
When Charlotte Flair signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2012, it was evident that she lacked her father's natural charisma and masterful heel arrogance. That's when a familiar name decided to take Charlotte under his wing. Dusty Rhodes, her father's arch-rival, would become Charlotte Flair's saving grace. It was Dusty Rhodes who helped her blossom into the professional wrestler fans now know as "The Queen."
Flair told Lilian Garcia,
"It was 100% [Dusty Rhodes who helped me come up with the character]. All four of us [The 4 Horsewomen] it was just Dusty finding something that was true to us, like something that was authentic and making that larger than life. It started with my athleticism and then the legacy. It was just believing in that confidence, 'You can carry yourself like a Queen.' You can see that in each one of our characters."
