What's the story?

Charlotte Flair has been through a lot in her life. She's dealt with pain, tragedies, leaks, and losses.

Charlotte revealed some horrible memories of her ex-husband when he was high and abusive as well as him doing drugs with her brother Reid.

In case you didn't know...

Charlotte Flair hasn't always been the Genetically Superior WWE Superstar fans know today. There was once a time in her life when she was just Ashley and married to a man named Riki Johnson.

Flair and Johnson had a troublesome relationship wrought with many trials. The couple were together for a while and married in 2010 but divorced in 2011. But that time was filled with some terrible memories for Charlotte Flair.

The heart of the matter

According to the upcoming book "Second Nature: The Legacy of Ric Flair and the Rise of Charlotte" the couple had a very rough time while they were together. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter released an excerpt from the book detailing some awful memories.

Riki Johnson was a student at UNC-Chapel Hill which caused Charlotte to give up a Division-1 volleyball scholarship at Appalachian State to be with him.

Charlotte said Johnson was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because he would be the man of her dreams one moment and an absolute terror the next.

In one passage in the upcoming book, she revealed how bad it got at times while living in Chapel Hill.

"Riki started swinging at me like we were in a street fight. Over his screams, I could hear his fists hit my arms. I managed to block most of the punches, but one shot got me in the ribs. I began to gasp for air, but he didn't stop [...] Riki punched me right in the head. ...I think about that girl now, and it brings tears to my eyes. How did I get there? Why was this going on? Why wasn't I strong enough, brave enough, to end this?"

According to the book, Johnson also had a drug problem and would get high with her brother Reid who later died from a drug overdose in 2013.

Whats next?

Charlotte and Ric Flair will sell a ton of books if the rest of the content inside is anywhere close to the excerpts they released.

Charlotte Flair will continue to be a top female WWE Superstar but through the power and bravery of this book, she will also probably become a beckon of hope for women going through similar circumstances.

Author's take

Charlotte Flair is one of the bravest women I can think of. She's had many setbacks in her life but continued on to become who she is today.

Charlotte is loved by millions not only because she's Ric Flair's daughter but also because she's an amazing entertainer. She's worked hard to make it on her own and this certainly proves that.

I knew Charlotte's had to endure a lot of sadness and strife during her thirty-one years on this planet so far. But knowing she dealt with that kind of situation with her ex-husband makes her even more impressive of an individual.
