CM Punk and 4 other WWE Superstars who have the opportunity to finish their stories in 2025
2025 is poised to be one of the biggest years for WWE. From a well-earned retirement tour to numerous dream matches, the next 12 months are a can't-miss for wrestling fans.
One of the most celebrated WWE moments in 2024 was Cody Rhodes finally defying the odds and 'finishing his story.' Ending Roman Reigns' generational title run and winning the championship, his late father, Dusty Rhodes, never could etch Cody's name in history books.
Now, with 2025 just a few days away, let's take a look at five other gifted WWE Superstars who have the chance to finish their long-overdue stories.
#5. CM Punk (main event a WrestleMania)
Until Royal Rumble 2024, all signs pointed to CM Punk finally earning his much-awaited 'Mania main event by wrestling then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in a dream grudge match at this year's Showcase of the Immortals. However, an unfortunate injury at the Rumble binned those plans.
Now, with the Road to WrestleMania 41 merely weeks away from kicking off, CM Punk fans are once again filled with hope. There have been rumors of The Chicago native wrestling Roman Reigns at The Show of Shows.
Given the massive numbers they drew at Survivor Series, it's a no-brainer that these two would main-event a night of WrestleMania if they end up clashing. Their well-documented, real-life heat and the ambiguity regarding Paul Heyman's loyalty would make for a compelling story.
#4. Sheamus (win the WWE Intercontinental Championship)
To say that Sheamus was bathing in success during the 2010s would be a massive understatement. In the previous decade, the Celtic Warrior became a multi-time World Champion, a Royal Rumble winner, Mr. Money in the Bank, and King of the Ring.
The only prominent accolade that has managed to elude him so far is the Intercontinental Championship. The Irish star has been clamoring to win the workhorse title for years, only to keep coming up short time and again. Perhaps 2025 is the year Sheamus finally completes his Grand Slam.
It's true that the 'Banger' connoisseur hasn't been able to defeat the reigning Intercontinental Champion, Bron Breakker. However, with WrestleMania 41 on the horizon, The Celtic Warrior might try his luck again, either on the big show or during the European tour on the Road to 'Mania.
#3. Logan Paul (become a World Champion)
During the WWE RAW on Netflix Kickoff event, Logan Paul made his point loud and clear that he sees himself becoming a World Champion in WWE. While Paul has unsuccessfully fought for the top titles a couple of times, 2025 might come with the charm he needs to dethrone a reigning World Champion.
In addition, word has come out that the IMPAULSIVE host and UFC icon Conor McGregor are in talks to put on an exhibition boxing fight. If that fight becomes official and Paul walks away with the win, there's no doubt WWE would want to make him a World Champion.
If both of these things happen in 2025, the social media megastar will be able to tout himself as the undisputed king of combat sports, which happens to be one of his goals.
#2. Goldberg (have a proper retirement match)
Goldberg's wrestling style has never clicked with every fan. Despite that, there's no denying that he was one of the biggest stars during the late '90s wrestling boom.
In early 2022, Goldberg squared off and lost against Roman Reigns in an underwhelming match. To date, that bout is the WWE Hall of Famer's last wrestling match. Even The Myth himself isn't a big fan of the match and refuses to acknowledge it as his retirement match.
Thanks to the current WWE regime, Goldberg is once again back in the fold. Shortly after his appearance at Bad Blood 2024, he announced that he would have his retirement match in WWE at some point in 2025. Thus, it's certain that he will be walking into the sunset on his own terms.
#1. John Cena (claim his 17th World Championship)
2025 will kick off with the commencement of the legendary John Cena's highly anticipated farewell tour. The Cenation leader will wrestle full-time as part of said tour.
Since 2018, the top WWE star-turned-Hollywood actor has made sure to put over other stars in his brief wrestling stints selflessly. However, fans unanimously believe that his upcoming run should be a reminder of who John Cena was between 2005 and 2015.
One way to do that would be to finally break Ric Flair's longstanding record of winning 16 World Championships. Cena tied the record back in 2017. 2025 will give him the chance to finally break it. Additionally, he could set his sights on becoming a Grand Slam Champion by challenging for the Intercontinental title.
