CM Punk News: Critics praise former WWE Superstar's acting debut
What's the story?
CM Punk's acting debut has earned accolades from critics for his performance in the film 'Girl on The Third Floor.'
The film depicts CM Punk as Don Koch who recently purchased a fixer-upper (house) to renovate. Strange things start happening when the house starts creating problems for Don.
In case you didn't know
When CM Punk is not wrestling or fighting in the UFC or being a color commentator for MMA, he is beefing up on his acting roles. For those in the WWE Universe who don't know, CM Punk also hosts Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix.
Years ago, on Colt Cabana's podcast 'The Art of Wrestling', CM Punk stated his intention on wanting to venture into acting after he was done with wrestling.
The heart of the matter
Girl on the Third Floor recently premiered at the SXSW film festival which was held between March 08 - March 16. Here's what the critics are saying about CM Punk's performance in the film.
Variety:-
"Heavily tattooed Phil Brooks has the slightly cartoon leading man looks and antic comic esprit of Bruce Campbell in the “Evil Dead” movies — he’s another square-jawed wise guy who invariably ends up prey to splattery slapstick peril. It’s a fun star turn that easily carries most of the film, abetted by Stevens’ deft assembly."
Film School Rejects:-
C.M. Punk does good work with the role as he’s an energetic and charismatic performer — who, not for nothing, resembles nothing less than the angry love child of Jon Hamm and Ted Raimi with his expressive antics here — walking a fine line with a character who earns our sympathy before threatening to lose it. "
Vanyaland:-
"Brooks’ performance here is an interesting jumble of traits from different iconic horror protagonists, the most obvious being the cocksure, smirking swagger of Ash Williams from the Evil Dead movies, even though he’s using that kind of charisma to a different end (outright sleaziness) than Bruce Campbell did."
What's next?
CM Punk will be appearing with AEW Stars for an autograph session at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo.
