CM Punk reveals what brought him back to professional wrestling
The world of wrestling was shocked to the core last week when CM Punk returned to the WWE fold in the form of an appearance on WWE Backstage.
He revealed he was employed by FOX and not WWE and that he would let anyone and everyone in wrestling have it with his honest opinions.
During an interview on Backstage with Renee Young, Punk detailed how he came back into the pro wrestling fold.
When Young asked what brought him back to wrestling, Punk answered that this job (analyst job on FOX) didn't even exist six years or even six months ago. He said the job was "offered to him and someone kind of floated the idea to him and he didn't immediately say no to it."
The former WWE Champion also noted that because of that hesitance to immediately decline the offer, it became something that was more and more interesting to him. Things snowballed on from that feeling he had.
Punk also went on to say that "wrestling and what I'm doing now are two completely different things". He elaborated that he doesn't work with or have any kind of a relationship with anyone in WWE and that his gig on WWE Backstage is "strictly a me and FOX thing".
The main benefit of working for FOX, and not directly the WWE, was that he'd get to criticize the product. That criticism of the product is "something I've always done and it's what made me popular. I've always been this way."
An interesting note from the whole debut on Backstage was that Punk revealed that "it's been so long since anything related (to pro wrestling) has made me feel this way". His return was something that made him nervous, but those nerves were a good thing because he was excited for a new chapter in his life.
Sometimes the timing is just right for certain situations, and after an unsuccessful MMA run, Punk returning to wrestling in any capacity is just right. People will consistently wonder when and if he's returning to the ring, but we should just be glad that he's feeling the pins and needles for pro wrestling once more.
