CM Punk sued by WWE Doctor who has denied his claim, lawsuit updates
WWE’s physician Dr. Chris Amann has filed a lawsuit against the former WWE stars CM Punk and Colt Cabana over their comments on Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast last year during the Thanksgiving weekend. According to the Cook County Record in Illinois, the doctor has claimed that he has been defamed as a result of CM Punk’s comments during the podcast. The WWE physician has denied any claims by CM Punk and Cabana’s name is included in the lawsuit for supporting CM Punk to “falsely depicit” Amann. To note, Dr Amann has demanded $1 million as compensatory damages and also some unspecified amount of punitive damages. Dr Amann is being represented by Phillip J. Zisook and Brian D. Saucier of Deutsch, Levy & Engel in Chicago.
A quick note on CM Punk’s comments in the podcast – The WWE star blamed Dr Amann for misdiagnosing a growth on his back as a fatty deposit and he also mentioned that Dr Amann paid no heed to his request for removing suspected growth on his back. Later, Punk was told by another physician that it was a full-blown MRSA staph infection. Punk further commented about Dr Amann that he lacked “integrity … and/or inability or lack of competence to perform his professional duties as a medical doctor.”
According to the lawsuit filed by the WWE doctor, “Amann was not requested by Brooks to treat and/or excise a lump, let a lone a purple, baseball-sized lump,” also asserting that Punk never asked for any treatment or even showed his lump to Dr Amann. Punk had also claimed that Amann had prescribed him antibiotics for mild concussion because he did not know how to treat a concussion. During last year’s Royal Rumble, Punk claimed that he went to the medical facility for a concussion, but Dr Amann took it very lightly. Quite the contrary, Dr Amann says that he never prescribed antibiotics to Punk for any lump or concussion and regarding the Royal Rumble event he says that he had advised Punk to leave the ring after he came up with concussion issues and also requested Punk to undergo further treatment and monitoring in the training room.
The doctor has denied all of his allegations and has come up strongly against the former WWE star. Dr Amann’s lawsuit includes transcripts straight from the podcast. The lawsuit also claims that the podcast has been streamed on Youtube for more than 1 million times and more than 10000 times on SoundCloud. Because it is a company employee’s issue, it’s likely that the WWE will intervene in it. We will keep you updated.
