Cody Rhodes' actions to lead to a major heel turn on WWE SmackDown? Analyzing the chances

Cody Rhodes is perhaps the most beloved superstar in WWE right now. This is true, for most fans in the stands and wrestlers in the locker room. And heading into SmackDown this week in Orlando, we can expect the same. However, his actions this week could lead to one major heel turn sometime in the future.

This heel turn has to do with Cody Rhodes' opponent for Bash in Berlin, Kevin Owens. Now, it's been a while since The Prizefighter has been a heel. In fact, it's been almost two years since he turned face and started a war with The Bloodline. But, as of last week, KO hasn't seemed quite like himself, and perhaps his alliance with The American Nightmare is coming to an end.

Tonight, Kevin Owens will take on Grayson Waller in a singles match. Now, given that Austin Theory is not too far away when Waller is involved, it's almost certain that he will interfere. This is where Cody Rhodes steps in, with the sole aim of helping KO. But, in the heat of things, the Undisputed WWE Champion may actually end up costing his friend the match, thus sowing the seeds for a potential heel turn.

Owens clearly doesn't believe he is deserving of a World Title match. And, should Rhodes interfere tonight, it will likely bring his confidence down even more. This and more could see him turn heel in Berlin. But, at this point, this is nothing more than speculation, and only time will tell what the future holds.

Nick Aldis initially wanted Roman Reigns to face Cody Rhodes

Following a successful defense at SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes' next big challenger was to be determined on last week's SmackDown. While The American Nightmare was heavily in favor of Kevin Owens, the blue brand's GM, Nick Aldis wanted to go in another direction. In fact, he was keen on having Roman Reigns challenge for the title.

Now, Reigns vs. Rhodes at Bash in Berlin would have been quite the spectacle. But Aldis' mind was changed after Owens vehemently protested against such booking. Seeing The Prizefighter's passion, and Rhodes' insistence upon facing him, Aldis decided to book a match between the two babyfaces.

We will no doubt see a third iteration of Reigns vs. Rhodes somewhere down the road. But, as of now, the WWE Universe will have to settle for KO at Bash in Berlin. That said, there is a lot of potential in this match, especially if, as mentioned earlier, a heel turn is on the way.
