Cody Rhodes should break a major 26-year-old WWE record before finishing his story

Cody Rhodes' journey to the top of WWE hit a sudden roadblock when Solo Sikoa interfered and cost him the titles against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. However, The American Nightmare is hell-bent on finishing his story by beating The Tribal Chief.

The only way Rhodes will reach the top is by overcoming adversities in his journey on the red brand. The biggest obstacle The American Nightmare needs to overcome is The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar.

After The American Nightmare was unable to challenge Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar tricked Cody Rhodes and ended up attacking him. The two started their feud on Monday Night RAW. And last weekend on Backlash The American Nightmare secured a controversial win over the Beast.

However, this week on RAW, Brock Lesnar returned to the company and brutally attacked Cody Rhodes, which cost him the World Heavyweight Championship tournament. It became evident that he will spend the rest of the year overcoming adversities before his clash with Roman Reigns for the titles.

Why should Cody Rhodes win the Royal Rumble before facing Roman Reigns in WWE?

The Royal Rumble is the biggest challenge faced by any WWE superstar in the company. Several men and women have tried and failed to do so. Earlier this year, The American Nightmare returned after injury and went on to win the match. However, he did it in the easiest way possible.

When Cody Rhodes returned, fans were already expecting the star to win the rumble. To make matters worst, WWE also announced his return in advance and gave him the 30th spot in the match. After a hard-fought battle with Gunther, he ended up winning the event.

Cody Rhodes has overcome plenty of adversities ever since he returned to WWE. However, winning the Royal Rumble in two consecutive years, most likely as the first or second entrant, is an achievement made by very few Hall of Famers, including 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and Hulk Hogan.

If Rhodes breaks the 26-year-old long-standing record, The American Nightmare's name gets added to the history books. A feat of such magnitude should be enough momentum for Rhodes to end The Tribal Chief's reign of tyranny from WWE, which started almost four years ago by the time we reach WrestleMania 40.
