Cody Rhodes to finally receive the torch as WWE's top babyface at WrestleMania 41? Exploring potential legendary opponent
Today in the world of WWE, there is a particular individual who is viewed as the leading man. Cody Rhodes has been depicted as the ultimate protagonist ever since his return at WrestleMania 39. However, even with his victory in the Undisputed WWE Championship, some believe he lacks a certain essence. This perception might change at WrestleMania 41, as he could inherit the title of the company's top face from an iconic superstar.
The individual being discussed is praised as one of the most adored personalities in the history of WWE. John Cena has dedicated almost 24 years to the world of wrestling, giving it his all. Known as "the guy," Cena, who is set to retire from wrestling next year, may just want to pass the top hero role to Cody Rhodes. If reports are to be believed, WWE may allow him to do so.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been talks regarding a potential world title opportunity for John Cena at WrestleMania 41. Considering it may be his last Mania ever, it wouldn't be surprising if WWE chooses to end things with a bang. This is where a match with Cody Rhodes would fit in perfectly. While there is no guarantee that Cena will take the belt off Rhodes, it could lead to a far more special moment, where the former passes the torch off to the latter.
Much like The Rock passed the torch to him at WrestleMania 29, Cena could do the same with Rhodes. It certainly would be an epic way to ride off into the sunset. But, as things stand, this is nothing more than mere conjecture.
Cody Rhodes has a lot of WWE Superstars gunning for his Undisputed Championship
Whether or not Cody Rhodes will face John Cena remains to be seen, but he isn't exactly starved of competition. As the Undisputed WWE Champion, The American Nightmare is a "wanted man" in WWE. There are several superstars, who would wade through hell to get their hands on his championship belt.
Just looking at the list of opponents he has had so far confirms it. The Phenomenal One, AJ Styles tried twice and failed. Logan Paul went into King and Queen of the Ring with nothing to lose and still couldn't prevail. The new Tribal Chief, Solo Sikoa came close at SummerSlam but wasn't able to cross the finish line. And last but not least, Cody's friend turned enemy, Kevin Owens didn't have the mentality to get the job done at Bash in Berlin.
This is just the tip of the iceberg though. Several others are waiting in the wings for the right opportunity. The Rock has made known his intention to take the belt, and Roman Reigns would certainly love a rematch sometime in the future. Even Cody's last and only ally, Randy Orton has been seen eyeing the title from time to time. All this suggests one thing and one thing only, Rhodes has a huge target on his back.
