Cody Rhodes' title reign to end, AEW star to jump ship? - 4 surprises that could happen on the season premiere of WWE SmackDown

A monumental edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown will be taking place this week. After five years of the blue brand airing every Friday on the FOX Network, the show is set to change homes. SmackDown will be returning to the USA Network as of this Friday.

Three big-time matches have been confirmed for the blue brand. This includes a Steel Cage Match for the World Title, a tag team match with a mystery partner, and part five of an epic rivalry. Still, there could be more cards up Triple H's sleeve.

This article will take a look at a handful of surprises that may be in store come the season premiere of Friday Night SmackDown. This includes a big return, a massive title change, and a big AEW name jumping ship.

Below are four surprises that could happen on the season premiere of WWE SmackDown.

#4. Jimmy Uso could return after months

Jimmy Uso is one of the greatest tag team wrestlers in WWE history. He and Jey Uso, collectively known as The Usos, ruled the tag team scene for the bulk of a decade. They had the longest tag title reign in the company's history too.

The legendary tag team star hasn't been in a WWE ring since the SmackDown after WrestleMania. He was brutally attacked by his own younger brother in Solo Sikoa along with the debuting Tama Tonga.

Fans are eagerly awaiting his arrival and it may come as soon as on SmackDown's return to the USA Network. Don't be shocked to see Jimmy Uso show up and potentially cost Solo Sikoa the Undisputed WWE Championship. Revenge may be sweet for Uso.

#3. Tiffany Stratton could cash in on Nia Jax

Tiffany Stratton is moving up through the ranks of the main roster rather quickly. She has competed on several premium live events this year and even went on to become Ms. Money in the Bank.

Her best friend and the current WWE Women's Champion is Nia Jax. The powerful superstar won the gold by defeating Bayley at SummerSlam. She has since successfully defended the prized championship against Michin in a Street Fight. The match was epic, but many wonder what's next for Jax.

In what could be a major surprise, Tiffany Stratton might be next for The Queen of the Ring. The master of the Prettiest Moonsault Ever could have an in-ring segment with Nia and shockingly blindside her with the Money in the Bank briefcase. From there, Tiffany could hit her celebrated Moonsault and cash in, thus becoming champion immediately. Fans would love to see this happen, even if Tiffany's methods would be underhanded.

#2. Cody Rhodes could lose his World Title

Cody Rhodes is the Undisputed WWE Champion. He won the belt by defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. In the months since then, Cody has managed to defeat AJ Styles twice, Logan Paul, Kevin Owens, and Solo Sikoa.

The American Nightmare has a huge match ahead of him. Cody will be putting his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa in a SummerSlam rematch. Not only are the two men set to clash, but they will do so inside of a Steel Cage.

In what would be a major surprise to wrestling fans all over, Solo Sikoa could dethrone Rhodes on SmackDown. If Jacob Fatu manages to get inside the cage, he can attack Cody and that would allow Sikoa to climb out and exit, thus winning the World Title in the process.

#1. Penta El Zero Miedo could jump ship from AEW to WWE

Penta El Zero Miedo is a Mexican pro wrestler who has mastered Lucha Libre. The star has found great success in Lucha Underground, All Elite Wrestling, and beyond.

Speaking of All Elite Wrestling, the promotion has been the primary home for the man formerly known as Pentagon Jr. for the past five years. Recently, however, it was reported that he might be WWE-bound.

If Penta has indeed left AEW, he could make his massive surprise debut on Friday Night SmackDown this week. An AEW star jumping ship would be another boost in the arm WWE needs to maintain its strong business going forward. He could confront Andrade or Carmelo Hayes, thus ending their rivalry and starting a brand new one.
