Cody Rhodes to turn heel following major clue? Chances explored by WWE veteran

Cody Rhodes has been the top babyface on WWE SmackDown since his monumental victory against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. However, he may have dropped hints about a potential heel turn.

On this week's episode of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes talked about the prestige of the Crown Jewel Championship that will be awarded to the winner of his match against Gunther at the namesake event. He elaborated that he wanted to become the first-ever champion of its kind and would win the title for his daughter. He may have dropped a clue towards a potential heel turn.

On a recent episode of BroDown on Backstage Pass, WWE veteran Vince Russo pointed out how The American Nightmare uses certain words that most of his fans wouldn't understand. The promotion usually ensures the babyfaces use simple words to get the audience by their side, so the Undisputed WWE Champion may have a hidden superiority complex to use complex words.

Rhodes notably used the word 'pantheon' on WWE SmackDown, which means a group of famous and important people. However, many fans may not know the meaning of the word.

"The average person does not have a clue what the word 'pantheon' means. So how is a babyface using a word that 90 percent of his audience wouldn't understand?" said Russo.

Russo mentioned that Cody ensures he treats his fans well, so using such words doesn't go with his babyface character.

"You dress like a superhero; they [fans] think you're a superhero; you take the time out; you give them your belts on your entrance; all that is great. But then you're using 'pantheon.' I'm confused. I never saw [someone like] John Cena use a word like that," said Vince Russo.

Vince Russo and AEW star Mac Davis also discussed how babyfaces like Stone Cold Steve Austin never used words fans wouldn't understand. They also pointed out Cody Rhodes dresses like he's superior, and his nickname, The American Nightmare, also sounds like it was meant to be for a heel.

If this was indeed a hint, fans might witness a Cody Rhodes heel turn soon.
