Connection with top stars, massive heel heat – 3 reasons a massive betrayal will make Austin Theory the next big babyface in WWE

WWE finally did something fans were eagerly awaiting several months ago. After the titles were unified for nearly two years, tag team gold was finally split courtesy of a Ladder Match at WrestleMania XL.

Awesome Truth (R-Truth and The Miz) won the then RAW Tag Team Title, and A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) walked away with the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The titles were later renamed the World Tag Team Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship. While Grayson Waller and Austin Theory continue to hold the WWE Tag Team Title, the past few weeks haven't been good for A-Town Down Under.

Many believe Grayson is taking advantage of Austin, and the two aren't really friends. #DIY (Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano) has been trying to drill this point into Austin Theory lately. Still, Theory has Waller's back, and many believe that the former will pay for it sooner rather than later.

Some fans believe Grayson Waller will soon betray his partner. This would make Austin a babyface, which would be quite the change.

Below are three reasons a massive betrayal will make Austin Theory the next big babyface in WWE:

#3. He has never been a babyface on WWE's main roster!

Austin Theory is an interesting figure. On paper, he should be quite popular. He has a personality that very few can match. He also has an impressive move set that leaves fans in awe.

Despite that, the 26-year-old SmackDown Superstar has had a smug attitude that has turned fans away from him. It also didn't make him popular backstage, both on NXT and later on WWE's main roster. His arrogance rubbed many the wrong way and arguably continues to do so.

Due to his smug attitude, Theory has never been a babyface on the main roster. While being a babyface may not come naturally to him, it can be a blessing in disguise.

Fans have never had a reason to root for the former United States Champion until now. However, a shocking betrayal from his ''best friend'' Grayson Waller could humble Austin Theory, forcing the latter to shrug off his arrogance. With the WWE Tag Team Champion having the required skills to be a successful singles star, the talented star could become one of the biggest babyfaces in the company.

#2. The ties with DIY should help his popularity!

Johnny Gargano is no stranger to Austin Theory. While on the WWE NXT brand, the #DIY member led a stable called The Way. The group featured Dexter Lumis, Indi Hartwell, Candice LeRae, and Austin Theory.

In recent weeks, Johnny Gargano has constantly tried to alert Austin Theory against a potential betrayal from Grayson Waller. While Theory isn't listening, he will likely find out sooner rather than later.

If Waller does betray Theory in the coming weeks, the latter will likely end up in good graces with his mentor, Johnny Gargano, yet again. Considering that Ciampa and Gargano are quite popular among fans, this could endear Theory to the WWE Universe and help him become a successful singles star. Over time, it will help him become a breakout babyface.

#1. Grayson Waller is truly hated, which will make Austin Theory a bigger babyface!

The final clue that signifies Austin Theory could become a massive babyface in WWE following a betrayal from his tag-team partner has less to do with Austin himself. Grayson Waller could be what catapults Theory to the next level.

Grayson Waller got his breakthrough in the Stamford-based promotion through 205 Live. The Aussie star later competed for NXT. While on the developmental brand, he had issues with just about everybody, including hostilities with Shawn Michaels that nearly led the two to come to blows.

Waller is obnoxious and arrogant in ways that even Theory can't match. Fans hate it every time Grayson opens his mouth. As a result, when Waller does betray Theory, it will organically force fans to get behind Austin.
