Correcting Vince McMahon's mistakes, top stars breaking up? - 4 reasons why DIY should become the next WWE Tag Team Champions

WWE Friday Night SmackDown will be airing tomorrow on the FOX Network. This show will be the final edition of the blue brand ahead of Money in the Bank and thus will air live from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In what will surely be a packed edition of Friday Night SmackDown, two tag team matches have been booked. One bout will see Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair battle Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. The other will be for tag team gold.

DIY's Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are set to challenge the reigning champions A-Town Down Under. Grayson Waller and Austin Theory have been feuding with the popular tandem for many weeks now and things are ready to boil over in Toronto.

It isn't yet clear which team will leave SmackDown with gold, but DIY arguably should be the ones to exit as champions. This article will take a look at a handful of reasons why Johnny Wrestling and The Blackheart should be the next ones to win the coveted titles.

Below are four reasons why DIY should become the next WWE Tag Team Champions.

#4. DIY has gotten quite over with the WWE Universe

DIY was first established on the WWE NXT brand after both men had successful indie careers. While on NXT, they went from being a team nobody truly knew to becoming the top stars of the brand, both as a duo and later as singles competitors.

Their journey on the main roster has been similar in some ways. The vast majority of the WWE Universe didn't know the two very well, or at the very least, didn't have much of a connection. That has changed in 2024, however.

Johnny Wrestling and Tommaso Ciampa are quite over with fans these days. DIY chants are regularly heard in their promos and matches. Additionally, the crowd is always behind them when they're competing. Given that they've organically gotten over, it would be wise to make the two the next champions.

#3. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa had a rough time when Vince McMahon was around

Vince McMahon led WWE for decades. While he did a lot of good in pro wrestling, he has done a lot of bad for the industry as well.

Simply put: Vince McMahon lost his touch many years ago. Many top WWE NXT stars were revamped or never called up thanks to Vince. Both Johnny and Tommaso were victims of this.

Gargano was kept off of TV when Vince returned in 2023 and Ciampa was never used to his potential. The pair suffered for quite some time. Now that McMahon is gone, they can be rewarded. Triple H might capitalize on DIY's momentum and put the titles on them.

#2. DIY is extremely talented

WWE is spoiled with choices in terms of who to push in 2024. From low-card acts like Cedric Alexander and Tegan Nox to big names such as Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, there is a near-endless array of talent from top to bottom.

The fact that WWE is so stacked with top stars means standing out is difficult, yet DIY manages to do so. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are so talented that even with a crop of incredible wrestlers surrounding them, the pair still stands out for their skill set.

While A-Town Down Under are certainly good performers, they aren't quite up to par with DIY. This could be said for most tag teams in the company. It would be wise for Triple H to make the best team hold the title. If that's the route to go, DIY should be the champions.

#1. A-Town Down Under is seemingly set to break up

A-Town Down Under is one of the most cocky and unbearable tag teams in WWE history. Grayson Waller and Austin Theory both have huge egos, but clearly they can back it up, as they won the-then SmackDown Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania.

Fast forward to July 2024 and things seem rocky between the pair. Despite still being the WWE Tag Team Champions, Waller seemingly doesn't care for Theory and is using the former EVOLVE Champion.

It appears as if A-Town Down Under is bound for a split with Austin Theory potentially turning babyface. If the goal is to split the duo up, DIY winning the Tag Team Titles on Friday makes sense. This would free the pair up so they can go on and feud with each other while DIY can defend the titles against anybody and everybody who comes their way.
