Is Daniel Bryan the most popular babyface in WWE today?

Daniel Bryan is the biggest babyface in WWE today

Two weeks ago, Daniel Bryan finally gave in to the Wyatt Family’s continuous weird attempts of forcing him to join them, and as it appeared, for a long time. All seemed fine with the Wyatts until Monday as Bryan gave a surprise to everyone.

He turned on his teammate, Bray Wyatt, after refusing to take the Sister Abigail from him once again that night, and then marked a return to his babyface ways, much to the joy of the Rhode Island crowd who were enjoying every moment of this break-up.

Bryan has always been a promising star in the company since his  NXT debut, winning the United States Championship, the 2011 SmackDown Money in the Bank, the Tag Team Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Championship (twice) in a period of less than 4 years.

After “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, no other superstar has received such an ovation as Bryan has got in past couple of years, specially on the latest episode of Raw.

Vince McMahon might consider John Cena as the company’s best babyface in the past decade, but apparently even the year-old Big E. Langston gets a better crowd response than Cena.

Whether Vince likes it or not, Bryan is the biggest babyface in the company right now, this is the reason why the Creative couldn’t increase his stint with a heel group for more than two weeks, but even in those 14 days Bryan was equally loved by the crowd. This reminds me of Stone Cold, who was always loved by the crowd, no matter if he was a face or a heel.

When Bryan started his feud with the Wyatt Family, everyone was certain that this feud is happening because WWE wanted to focus the WWE World Heavyweight Championship lens on Randy Orton and John Cena, and Bryan’s defeat at the hands of the Wyatt Family at TLC ensured that this feud stretches for some more time, with Bryan eventually joining them.

Moving Bryan away from the title scene didn’t help WWE in any way, because nothing exciting happened between Cena and Orton since TLC, it would have been better to let Bryan be a part of the title chase.

The time when Bryan joined the Wyatt Family, nobody expected the run to last for just two weeks, but Bryan went against everyone’s assumptions and returned to his YES! ways this past Raw. The way Bryan kicked the weirdness out of Bray Wyatt after the Steel Cage Match ensured that WWE is set to make Bryan their top contender for the Royal Rumble match.

It also showed that WWE can’t keep their most loved babyface as a heel for long, especially prior to Royal Rumble. But, after suffering a concussion at the end of Raw, Bryan’s main event status has suffered a serious blow with Royal Rumble less than two weeks away. It’s a matter of time before we will get to know if Bryan is fit for Royal Rumble and for a concrete main event status as the babyface of the company.
