Did Nia Jax Make History at the WWE Royal Rumble 2019?
The Royal Rumble is known to feature wrestlers from across all three brands; NXT, RAW, and Smackdown Live. This means there’s a mix of cruiserweights, heavyweights, and now, the woman’s division.
After being eliminated by Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch during the women’s rumble, Nia Jax returned to the ring after beating up R Truth to take his spot at number 30 in the men’s rumble. She looked dominate after eliminating Mustafa Ali and attacking Randy Orton and Dolph Ziggler.
After unsuccessfully eliminating Rey Mysterio, she became the subject to a superkick, 619, and an RKO, from out of nowhere, from all three men before getting eliminated for the second time that night.
Though she didn’t win, she has become the first women to compete in all three elimination matches for women, men, and the battle royal at last year’s Evolution. This could be the best pop that wrestler received after turning heel a few months ago. Fans were surprised and acceptable about her inclusion in the men’s rumble.
Jax now joins the ranks of past female wrestlers who competed in the mens rumble along with Chyna and Beth Phoenix as the fourth woman to enter a men's rumble.
What this can do for her moving forward?
If the writers can take this moment and run with it, correctly, this can lead to her leading the women's division as she's now that barrier breaker between both divisions. There have been times when the women attacked the men but it is frowned upon with production.
This will be a fresh start as well for the superstar, who is formerly known as the face breaker after botching a strike with Becky Lynch, as fans may be more open to having her on the screen more. After taking one of the most popular finishers in the business, she's definitely earned the respect of the WWE universe.
How will her Royal Rumble entry shake things up on Monday Night RAW? Tune in tonight to the USA Network to find out.
