WWE News: Edge reveals WWE's mistake in the Cena/Reigns feud
What’s the story?
Recently on E&C's Pod of Awesomeness, Edge didn't hold back on giving his frank opinion on the 'worked shoot' promo battle between John Cena and Roman Reigns.
In case you didn’t know…
Last Monday night on Raw, Cena and Reigns exchanged words and insults in a segment to kick off their program, leading up to their singles encounter at No Mercy.
While most observers felt that Cena's stellar mic work gave him the upper hand, they were also quick to point out that Reigns kept up well in the main, one noticeable lapse aside.
The heart of the matter
Edge felt that this match, along with Brock Lesnar vs Samoa Joe, should have been saved for Wrestlemania due to the magnitude of both matches, with the build themselves starting at the Royal Rumble.
"Imagine you put Brock Lesnar/Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns/John Cena on WrestleMania. Sold. Hold on! I'm great-balls-of-fired-up about it, man! You put it on Great Balls Of Fire and you put it on No Mercy. Come on! Like, what?"
"You could've started those around Royal Rumble season and nobody would've touched each other and you have two fresh matches that haven't happened that people want to see and want to talk about. That's my take on that."
"I don't know why it's happening at No Mercy. There [has] got to be something scheduling-wise as to why."
What’s next?
Tonight on Raw, expect more fireworks, verbal and otherwise, between "The Big Dog" and "The face that runs the place" ahead of their encounter at No Mercy.
Author's take
Edge's points are good ones, the timing is strange and this isn't the first time WWE have placed matches with huge potential on lesser shows.
No doubt the mic work and in-ring will be good, potentially great, but does this have the legs to run all the way to Wrestlemania? Unlikely.
Rumours continue to fly about a possible return for the Undertaker, could this be the reason why WWE has decided to pull the trigger on a major feud at a strange time of year? Could we finally see Cena vs the Dead Man at Mania? Or will he return for vengeance on Roman? Only Vince McMahon knows for sure.
