Ember Moon Injury Update: NXT Superstar injured during latest NXT tapings

Worrying times may well be ahead for Ember Moon

What’s the story?

Cageside Seats has reported that Ember Moon may have suffered an injury last night (19th April) during the NXT tapings.

A battle royal was held to determine a new number one contender for Asuka’s NXT Women’s Championship, and whilst Ember Moon may have come out successful (alongside Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot), reports state that the NXT star took a nasty bump to the outside and was helped to the back as a result. You can watch the bump below:

In case you didn’t know...

Ember Moon was unsuccessful in challenging Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver: Orlando, but the Superstar has arguably been Asuka’s toughest challenger to date. Ember has also been the key figure in Asuka’s slow heel turn, which continued during this set of tapings.

The heart of the matter

Ember Moon, Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot were the final three in a battle royal during the latest tapings, with the winner getting a shot at Asuka’s NXT Women’s Championship. The Champion eventually hit the ring and interjected herself into the match, leading to the whole thing being thrown out and a Fatal 4-Way being announced for NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

Asuka will now defend her title against Ember Moon, Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot.

In the ensuing melee, Ember was knocked from the top rope to the floor, with one fan reporting that she essentially did a suicide dive to the guardrail. The match was over fairly soon after this, and Ember was reportedly distraught at ringside. The NXT Superstar was subsequently helped to the back by medics and referees.

Neither WWE or Ember herself are yet to comment on the severity of the injury, but the word from those in attendance is that it doesn’t look good for one of NXT’s top female Superstars.

What’s next?

NXT fans will now await further news with somewhat baited breath, but building towards a Fatal 4-Way means that NXT has a fairly easy out if Ember is unable to compete in Chicago. A triple threat match between Asuka, Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot sounds like a whole lot of fun, and could well be a fresher option than running yet another fatal four-way.

The bigger issue is obviously Ember’s health, and everyone will be hoping that the injury is not as serious as first believed.

Author’s take

When watching as much pro-wrestling as we fans do, it is easy to forget the toll it takes on the bodies of the performers. Injuries are depressingly common, and fate works in such a way that those injuries seem to happen at the worst possible time.

It goes without saying that I would like to wish Ember Moon a full and speedy recovery. Both NXT and the WWE need her.
