Exclusive: Don Callis speaks about Rich Swann coming to Impact, The Grand Championship & more
You may know this fine gentleman as the colour commentator for NJPW and/or 'The Jackal' from The Attitude Era. In addition to the fine accomplishments mentioned here, Don Callis also presently serves as the Executive Vice President for Impact Wrestling.
I was part of a teleconference with the man and had a chance to ask him a handful of questions about everything Impact Wrestling. Here are some highlights from our short conversation!
It was recently announced that Rich Swann was coming to Impact Wrestling. Can you tell us how this came about?
Callis: Rich is a guy that has resurfaced on the independent scene, working for a bunch of independent promotions. His wife (Impact Knockout Su Yung) works for us and was an advocate for him coming in.
So yeah, he's going to be at our next set of tapings. He'll get an opportunity in the same way that other talent that comes in gets an opportunity to show what they can do!
Could you shed some light on what happened with Alberto El Patron that led to the Redemption main event being changed?
Callis: I think a lot of that has been covered. I don't have anything new to add to that. I certainly wish Alberto all the best in the stuff that he's doing in his life.
What are the plans for the Grand Championship down the line? It's not been the most active title on the show, of late!
Callis: To be determined. But if you watch our show, we introduced some new titles- new World title, new X-Division title, new Knockouts title and new Tag Team title. So, that may give you an indication of where the priorities lie. I've never been a fan of wrestling companies that had too many belts.
So, we'll probably stick with that philosophy outside any Championships I've mentioned!
