WWE Payback stats preview: The 'Three stages of Hell' match
In just a few weeks, we will witness the debut of ‘Payback’, WWE‘s latest Pay Per View. The main event for Payback is a ‘Three stages of Hell’ match between Champion John Cena and Ryback. As we await the exciting PPV, let us look at some fast facts about the three stages of Hell match.
Three stages of Hell is a stipulation where two wrestlers will take on each other in a match that has three stipulations. The wrestler who wins two out of the three stipulations emerges victorious.
- There are only three ‘Three stages of Hell’ matches that have taken place till date.
- Triple H has appeared in all of these matches.
- The Game has won two of his Three stages of Hell matches losing one to Randy Orton.
- His opponents being Stone Cold at ‘No Way Out’ in 2001, Shawn Michaels at ‘Armageddon’ in 2002 and Randy Orton at ‘The Bash’ in 2009.
- The various stipulations that have been a part of this match are the Singles match, Street fight, Cage match, Ladder match, Falls count anywhere match and the Stretcher match.
- The title’s that have been contested for, in this type of match up are the WWE championship in 2009 and the World Heavyweight Championship in 2002.
- The title has however changed hand only once in the history of this fixture. ie Triple H won it in 2002.
- The history of this match up proves that the superstar who enters the ring first has gone on to win the match.
- All the three stages of the match have been contested in so far with no superstar able to win the first two falls of the match.
- Triple H is the only wrestler to win two continuous falls in this type of match.
