WWE Rumors: Finn Balor not returning at the Royal Rumble 2017

The Demon King may not return just yet

While the rumours have been heavy of Finn Balor making a return from injury at the Royal Rumble, Balor has continually denied these claims. While speaking with Gorilla Position Live alongside Bayley, Balor reaffirmed to the audience present that his goal was still to return by Wrestlemania 33.

Finn Balor also said that there is a possibility that he would be returning a week or two before Wrestlemania 33. He is advertised for Wrestlemania 33, with him being present in the first promotional poster for the event alongside Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, and Sasha Banks.

Balor got injured at SummerSlam after suffering a shoulder injury towards the end of August and his expected return time was said to be six months. If that injury timeline holds, that would mean that he would return to action by the end of February on the road to Wrestlemania. In an interview with Jim Ross shortly after his injury, he said that he wants to return only when he is at 100%. The sling which he wore came off by November when he made a few appearances to promote WWE 2K17 in Europe.

On 7th December, he posted an update of how his rehabilitation has progressed so far

He also posted a picture of a list of rehabilitation exercises which were all crossed out, indicating just how well his progress has been. While he has been open about the positive progress in rehab, he has been firm on the date that he will come back by. He currently does six hours of rehab on a daily basis – 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon, all at the WWE Performance Center and in Birmingham, Alabama, where his surgery took place.

Although he has been denying rumours of an early return, the above-listed signs have indicated that he will be ready to return in a matter of time. Balor’s star power will definitely help generate a buzz about the Royal Rumble  at Alamodome. Balor has even been one of the early favourites in the betting odds of who will win the Royal Rumble  match.
