Five potential Hall of Fame inductees of 2014 – Number 3

There have been numerous superstars who’ve come and gone, but only few have stayed in the hearts of the fans. Whether you’re a critic or a fan of professional wrestling, you have to admit that you’re passionate about the industry. Professional wrestling has seen its fair share of ups and downs, phases that every industry goes through over time. But more than anything, the fans have helped the industry in its time of need, and have proven time and again that they are the most loyal bunch of people in any sport or entertainment sector. But there are times when the industry needs someone from within to help the organization or business to blossom; when the business hits a rough patch, these certain individuals step up to keep the momentum going.

Through the years, we’ve seen the likes of Blassie, Sammartino, Flair and Hulk Hogan helping the wrestling business. Ric Flair helped North American wrestling gain worldwide exposure by traveling around the world, wrestling some of the greatest names while Hulk Hogan created the Rock n’ Wrestling connection, inventing something that took the wrestling world by storm. However, by the late 80s, the wrestling fans needed something new; they needed a superstar who was different. Professional wrestling needed a figure who could help the industry from becoming stagnant. That was when a certain superstar brought in a completely new dimension – Flashy attires, colorful gimmick and “Pomp and Circumstance” as his entrance theme. He went on to becoming one of the greatest superstars to have ever lived! He is none other than “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and he finds himself at number three in our list.

If there was anyone who was born to become a professional wrestler, it was Randy Savage. His unbridled charisma, in combination with larger than life persona made Savage one of the most beloved superstars in the history of the industry. Randy Savage managed to break from the confines of professional wrestling, and transcended the industry. Not only was he one of the best performers inside the squared circle, but he could connect with the audience like very few others could. Macho Man’s career took off after he won the prestigious WWE Intercontinental championship, but it was only the beginning of one of the most illustrious careers the industry has ever seen.

Any book on Randy Savage would be incomplete without the love of his life, and a perfect companion – Miss Elizabeth. Truly a “match made in heaven”, the two have left millions of fans in tears of joy on many occasions. Randy Savage won the WWE title on a couple of occasions, along with WCW Heavyweight championship on four occasions; and his rivalry with Hulk Hogan has become a stuff of legends. Savage and Elizabeth were truly the Romeo – Juliet of professional wrestling, and their chemistry was/can never be matched by any other couple in the business. Randy Savage has been paired with a lot of managers, but he found his greatest success beside/with Miss Elizabeth.

They say there is a special place in heaven for those who bring joy to people. I’m not a big believer in a “better place” after we pass, but if anyone deserves a special place across the pearly gates, it is Randy Savage. Randy deserves, perhaps as much as anyone ever can/will to go into the WWE Hall of Fame. It is said that Savage had declined the offer before when he was alive, but any wrestling Hall of Fame would be incomplete without the Macho Man in it. Randy Savage brought smiles on millions of faces on multiple occasions, and left many more in tears in 2011 when he passed away. As a wrestling fan, I could thank him a million times more for the memories he left behind. I sincerely hope WWE inducts the Macho King into the Hall of Fame this year.
