Former world champion to return, unexpected swerve? - 4 directions for The New Day after losing title match on WWE RAW
WWE has several major factions that dominate much of the television each week. The top stables in the Stamford-based company over the past few years include names such as The Bloodline, The Judgment Day, the Latino World Order, and Damage CTRL, among others.
The most tenured stable in the company is undoubtedly The New Day. The group first formed about a decade ago and has featured Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, and Big E, although the latter has been out of action for two years due to a neck injury.
Kofi and Xavier have continued to wave the flag for The New Day to the best of their ability, but they have been having some serious issues. Not only did the two come up short against The Judgment Day in a World Tag Team Championship match, but they have been regularly arguing.
Now, what comes next for the group? This article will take a look at a handful of directions for Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston following their upsetting loss against Finn Balor and JD McDonagh on Monday Night RAW this week.
Below are four directions for The New Day after losing the World Tag Team Championship match on WWE RAW.
#4. They could amicably split
When factions or tag teams split up, there is often a lot of drama and chaos. The most infamous example is likely when The Rockers broke up and Shawn Michaels put Marty Jannetty through a glass window. Since that time, almost every WWE union ends in some kind of physicality.
However, that does not inherently have to be the case. The New Day are known to buck tradition in WWE and they could do exactly that with how their team ends. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods could simply end things amicably and go their separate ways.
Instead of fighting, they could agree to part ways as friends, believing that if they keep forcing the issue, they will end up at odds and things could go too far. This will then allow Woods to seek out singles gold and for Kofi to do whatever it is he wants to do next.
#3. Xavier Woods could turn heel against Kofi Kingston
Of course, there is the other option. Instead of the two parting ways as friends, The New Day could blow up spectacularly with a massive heel turn on WWE television. Based on recent weeks, the heel turn would likely come from Xavier Woods.
Woods was extremely frustrated when Kofi Kingston brought Odyssey Jones to RAW and the former made that very clear. He was then equally, if not even more frustrated when Kingston had the Latino World Order try to help fight off The Judgment Day. Xavier has had enough and wants change.
That change could come in the form of a heel turn. He could savagely assault Kofi Kingston in front of the world, leaving the latter helpless. From there, Woods would quickly become one of the top heels in the business.
#2. Big E could return to WWE television to fix things
As noted, The New Day started as a trio in WWE. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were joined by the incredibly talented and charismatic Big E. Unfortunately, the former world champion suffered a serious neck injury in 2022 and has not competed since.
While many people hoped that the former WWE Champion would be back by now, his return has not happened and many suspect it might never happen, at least in-ring. Still, the 38-year-old star could be the solution to the ongoing issues between Kofi and Xavier.
Whether Big E can return to the ring or not, he could return to Monday Night RAW in an attempt to talk some sense into his friends. If he can remind them about what The New Day is and stands for, perhaps it will kill any tension between the former tag team champions.
#1. Both men could swerve the Latino World Order and turn heel together
As noted, Kofi Kingston did something to truly set Xavier Woods off on WWE RAW. Knowing that The Judgment Day would undoubtedly interfere with their World Tag Team Championship match, Kofi recruited the Latino World Order to help out.
Dragon Lee, Joaquin Wilde, and Cruz Del Toro have all had issues with The Judgment Day, so they were happy to lend a hand on RAW. Unfortunately, this distracted the referee and ultimately cost The New Day the win. Woods was not pleased and told Kingston exactly that.
In what would be a fun swerve, there is a chance that Woods turns heel against the Latino World Order, but not alone. Kofi could realize the error of his ways and he could also help Xavier beat down the LWO members. This would mean that both members of The New Day would turn heel.
