Former writer talks about failed Bieber - Cena program for WWE Summerslam
In a surprising revelation, a former WWE writer has claimed that teen heartthrob and controversial pop star Justin Bieber was in talks to work a WWE program, involving John Cena and other major names as late as last year.
Kevin Eck, a former member of the WWE creative, claims in his blog that though the plan failed to materialize, the program was laid out for the initial part. The team of Cena, Bieber and Big Show were set to take on the Wyatt family, in a six-man tag match. There were concerns backstage about Bieber, who was getting negative press at the time, teaming up with then-WWE champion and PG poster-boy John Cena.
Eck explained:
“My concern at the time was that Cena teaming up with Bieber — who was making headlines for all the wrong reasons and most definitely would have been booed unmercifully by the WWE audience — would not have done Cena, the face of the company, any favors. To address that concern, the creative suggestion was that Cena would become increasingly annoyed by Bieber in the weeks leading up to the match, but Big Show, who would be portrayed as Bieber’s friend, would repeatedly play peacemaker.
After the babyfaces went over in the match, Bieber would be so obnoxious in trying to take credit for the win that Cena would hit the Attitude Adjustment on him for a big pop."
The concerns around working with Bieber were also put to rest with WWE's proximity to another controversial figure, boxing champ Floyd Mayweather.
“The feeling from the powers that be was that if Mayweather liked him, then Bieber must be OK.” wrote Eck.
