What's the story?

WWE Superstar Paige has been part of some controversial new stories over the past few years, but nothing that the former Divas Champion has done in her personal life compares to the backlash that she caused following a promo back in 2015.

Many of the WWE Universe reacted negatively to Paige mentioning Charlotte's deceased brother as part of a promo but according to former Creative Writer Tom Cassiello, Charlotte was actually the one who pitched the idea. He made these comments during an appearance on The Agenda Podcast.

In case you didn't know...

Ric Flair has four children but Charlotte only has one blood brother, with her other two siblings coming from Flair's first wife making them only half-siblings to the current Women's Champion.

Sadly, Charlotte's younger brother Reid passed away back in 2013 after an overdose and the death hit both Flair and Charlotte quite hard, with Flair himself making quite a scene at the WWE2K14 panel a few months later.

Reid never made it to WWE like his father and sister, but the WWE Universe was aware of his passing and knew that it was the reason Charlotte pushed so hard to become a WWE star because she wanted to do it for Reid since he couldn't.

Cassiello was a creative writer in WWE up until December last year and worked on a number of storylines involving the women in WWE. He has a background in writing for soap operas and was part of the company for almost seven years before his departure last year.

The heart of the matter

Former WWE Managing Lead Writer Tom Cassiello recently appeared on The Agenda Podcast where he discussed a number of issues regarding the Women's Revolution as part of this podcast he revealed that it was actually Charlotte who pitched the idea for Paige to bring Reid's name into their promo to give it more of an impact.

He stated that Charlotte wasn't bullied into it; it was something that was completely her idea. Paige received a lot of heat for her part in this promo with many news outlets claiming that Ric Flair had no idea that Reid's name would be used when it seems that it was actually his daughter's pitch, to begin with.

What's next?

Charlotte is the current SmackDown Women's Champion and it seems that she has her hands full with Natalya and The Riott Squad right now, that being said, this promo was done back when Paige and Charlotte were still friends backstage, before Alberto Del Rio came between them.

If the duo were part of the same kind of promo in the future then there would definitely be a lot more fire behind it since both women are said to have a lot of hate for each other outside of the ring. Paige recently returned to WWE herself and thankfully is on the opposite brand to Charlotte, but superstars can move around and in the future, the two former members of PCB could cross paths once again.

Authors take

The feud between Paige and Charlotte wasn't one that many of the WWE Universe were paying close attention to at the time, so many thought that Paige had found a way to ensure she got a reaction out of Charlotte ahead of their clash at Survivor Series back in 2015.

Sadly, this had the opposite effect and it seems that WWE decided to just brush the feud under the rug afterwards, so hopefully, the company learned the lesson by pulling this kind of stunt. It's just harsh that Paige received so much abuse at the time when she was only doing what she was told.
