WWE News: Former WWE stars line up to face John Cena at WrestleMania
What’s the story?
After an emotional promo on Raw, saw John Cena say that he was looking at potentially having no WrestleMania match, the chance of seeing the 16-time World Champion on 'The Grandest Stage Of Them All' was looking pretty bleak.
Well, a victory over current WWE Champion AJ Styles last night saw Cena added to the Fastlane main event for a chance to go to WrestleMania as WWE Champion. If that fails, though, Cena isn't short of offers - with THREE former WWE Superstars throwing their names in the ring to face Mr. Hustle Loyalty Respect at WrestleMania.
In case you didn’t know…
Cena has been strongly rumoured to face Undertaker at this year's WrestleMania, but he said on RAW this week that he has been told the match is impossible. While I don't think that's true, it should be noted that the match isn't as certain as it was once thought.
So much so that Rey Mysterio is now being touted as a potential opponent for Cena in New Orleans if a deal can be agreed between the former WWE Champion and WWE.
The heart of the matter
Well, you'd have to think that Cena won't be short of offers, but three former Superstars have issued the challenge to Cena if he fails to find an opponent at WrestleMania.
The most recent challenger is Chavo Guerrero! Cena has a lot of history with the Guerreros - having faced off against the late Eddie Guerrero many times in the past, and now Chavo has tweeted at the 16-time World Champion to put his name in the hat for a Mania match.
The second challenge for Cena came from a certain superhero! The Hurricane shocked the world at the Royal Rumble when he made his triumphant comeback and tried to chokeslam John Cena, only to be eliminated minutes later - but he's targeted the 16-time champion for a showdown in New Orleans too.
And to round off the offers, a certain former Intercontinental Champion added his name to the mix...
What's next?
I guess we'll see if Cena responds to any of the challenges.
His eyes may be firmly set on Fastlane, though, as he now has the chance to win the WWE Championship, even if there are five other men in the match, and potentially set up a match at Mania.
Author's take
Well, I would happily watch either Hurricane, Chavo or Lance Storm vs Cena at WrestleMania - or all three - but I think it's highly unlikely. I think we're still getting the Undertaker match, otherwise, I don't think it would have even been mentioned.
Either way, stuff like this is always awesome to see.
