Former WWE World Champion to return after over a year and immediately dethrone Gunther? Analyzing the chances
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther had a tough Saturday night as things didn’t go as he planned at Crown Jewel 2024. He lost his champion vs. champion match against Cody Rhodes in the main event of the show.
Following his loss against The American Nightmare at the Riyadh premium live event, fans have been wondering what’s next for The Ring General. Although the company has announced a Fatal Four-Way match to determine the number one contender for his title on Monday Night RAW, Goldberg is a massive favorite to face The Austrian Anomaly next.
In a shocking twist, former WWE World Champion Dolph Ziggler (Nic Nemeth) could return to face Gunther in a title match. Recently, Goldberg confirmed that he was going to wrestle in his final match next year. Ziggler mocked the prospect of a showdown between The Ring General and Da Man by quoting a tweet. He predicted that it would be a short match.
“On the bell, he Spears & Jackknifes Gunther. G kicks out at one. Three-minute match and good f’n riddance,” Ziggler wrote.
This tweet could lead to tension between the Imperium leader and Ziggler. Currently, The Showoff is signed to TNA Wrestling and holds the company's world title. For those unaware, TNA has a healthy working relationship with WWE that has seen both organizations exchange talents.
As part of the deal, the veteran could return to the global juggernaut for the first time since his release in September 2023. Upon his arrival, Ziggler could shockingly dethrone The Ring General as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
What went wrong between Gunther and Goldberg?
At Bad Blood 2024, Triple H introduced the Crown Jewel Championship. Gunther interrupted The Game's announcement, and while delivering a promo, he saw Goldberg, who was sitting in a crowd alongside his wife and son.
Tensions soon escalated after the World Heavyweight Champion mocked Goldberg's wrestling skills and even brought up his tumultuous relationship with Bret Hart. This prompted Da Man to jump the barricade to teach The Ring General a lesson face-to-face. However, before the Hall of Famer could reach the ring to confront the Imperium leader, security stopped him.
In the closing moments of the segment, fans saw Triple H raising Goldberg’s hand as the veteran looked at the camera and said, "You're Next." It will be interesting to see when the Stamford-based promotion will book the much-awaited match between The Icon and The Austrian Anomaly.
