From the GFW Rumour Mill: Big plans for Alberto El Patron's return

Alberto El Patron could be set to feature prominently upon making his return to GFW

What’s the story?

PWInsider.com has provided a slight update on Alberto El Patron’s future with Global Force Wrestling (GFW).

Per the report, the former world champion is expected to receive a big push when he eventually makes his return to Impact Wrestling, though there’s still no news on plans to use El Patron at November’s Bound for Glory event.

In case you didn’t know…

El Patron has been absent from GFW programming for the past couple of months, having been suspended by the company on July 12. The suspension stemmed from an incident at Orlando International Airport that saw El Patron—real name Jose Rodriguez—placed under investigation for domestic battery by Orlando police.

El Patron had been GFW Champion at the time and was stripped of the title off the back of the suspension before it was shortly revealed that he was no longer being treated as a suspect in the investigation.

Going in depth

PWInsider.com also notes that though there’s currently no word on El Patron’s status for Bound for Glory, he is scheduled to be at that week’s TV tapings in Ottawa.

Which, by the way, is the very same city in which Bound for Glory will be staged.

Next steps

Bound for Glory takes place at the Aberdeen Pavilion in Ottawa, Canada, on Sunday 5 November.

GFW will then shoot five days of Impact TV tapings from Nov 6 through to Nov 10—and it's those tapings at which El Patron is expected to make his return.

Author’s take

The news of El Patron’s presence at the November TV tapings isn’t necessarily much of a shock. That’s been the plan for a number of weeks now, with Dave Meltzer reporting the news back at the start of September.

The news of a big push, however, is slightly more surprising. Not to say it’s the wrong move, but given El Patron’s turbulent past, you could easily argue that it’s a risk for GFW to put so much stock in a man that they only recently had to strip of its world title.
