From the GFW Rumour Mill: Reports of major heat between Alberto El Patron and AAA in Mexico

Alberto El Patron was suspended by GFW

What’s the story?

In the same week that news broke of Alberto El Patron’s scheduled return to GFW, reports are now surfacing regarding an issue between El Patron and the AAA promotion in Mexico.

Wrestlezone is reporting, via PWInsider, that El Patron was scheduled to feature at the recent AAA Triplemania show, but opted against doing so after AAA allegedly "went behind his back and copyrighted the “Alberto El Patron” name in Mexico".

In case you didn’t know…

Triplemania is AAA’s biggest show of the year, and this year’s event took place just last weekend on August 26 in Mexico City.

Back in early July, El Patron had announced that he would be appearing at that show, a claim that was later confirmed by Dave Meltzer in the July 17 issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Of course, come August 26, El Patron was nowhere to be seen.

Going in depth

More specifically, Wrestlezone noted that El Patron was set to appear in a "major segment" at Triplemania, which would then have aired on GFW Impact to set something up for November’s Bound for Glory show.

However, after AAA reportedly went behind his back in copyrighting his name in Mexico, El Patron "refused" to shoot the angle with them.

Currently, there’s no official word from AAA on the situation, so stay posted for any further updates.

What's next?

Word is that the segment that was planned for Triplemania will now take place at an unspecified independent show so that footage can still be acquired to set up a possible match for El Patron at Bound for Glory.

Previously cited reports suggested that El Patron wasn’t set to return to GFW programming until the next set of TV tapings after Bound for Glory.

Presumably though, if this rumoured angle can be shot in the meantime, there’d be nothing stopping GFW from bringing El Patron back at the live Bound for Glory pay-per-view itself, rather than hanging on until the subsequent TV tapings.

Author’s take

At this point, it’s difficult to comment one way or another, as we’ve only heard one side of the story. Stay posted for any word on a response from AAA, or indeed even further confirmation from El Patron himself.
