From the Impact Wrestling Rumor Mill: Details on Impact Wrestling's future
What’s the story?
As per the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Impact Wrestling is looking to focus on a core group of stars going forward.
While names of a few top stars were revealed, Eddie Edwards’ current and future Impact Wrestling status was also detailed.
In case you didn’t know…
Longtime Impact Wrestling owner Dixie Carter sold off the majority of her company shares to Anthem Sports & Entertainment in early 2017.
Following which Anthem brought about significant changes in Impact Wrestling—with many big names departing, and controversies miring the company over the entire course of the 2017 calendar year.
The heart of the matter
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reveals that Impact Wrestling management now plans to go forward with a deal where they primarily focus on only about 6-8 guys as promotional mainstays. Brian Cage is touted as one of the core group, as Impact Wrestling is giving him a huge push.
Additionally, the idea is that they tone down Cage’s move-set early on in his Impact Wrestling stint, only having him squash every opponent and build him up, akin to Goldberg in WCW. Following this, Cage can be expected to dole out more of his high-flying manoeuvres in the high-stakes main-event matches.
Furthermore, it’s being revealed that Impact Wrestling is very happy with a few other stars as well namely Austin Aries, Su Yung, Matt Sydal & Sami Callihan. As for Eddie Edwards, the management were worried about him potentially losing his eye after his recent in-ring accident. However, he still worked the ensuing tapings and performed run-ins at the next television tapings.
It’s also being emphasized that with Edwards’ contract coming to an end, Impact Wrestling management is keen on re-signing him.
What’s next?
Fans can expect Impact Wrestling to pursue soon-to-be free agent Eddie Edwards.
On the other hand, one can look for the promotion to push a select few stars in 2018, in the promotion’s attempt to revive its monetary standing after incurring severe losses in 2017.
Author’s take
Honestly speaking, Impact Wrestling is right in focusing on a few top stars rather than having their storylines go haywire.
Besides, Brian Cage is one of the top prospects in professional wrestling today, and could very well turn into one of the sport’s biggest stars this year. Are you excited about Impact Wrestling’s future? Sound off in the comments!
