What's the story?

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar collide at WrestleMania for the second time in three years and according to Lesnar's advocate, Paul Heyman the match is once again set to close the biggest event of the year.

In case you didn't know...

Roman Reigns has main evented the past three WrestleMania's, with the first time being back at WrestleMania 31 when he faced off against Brock Lesnar for the first time. Reigns won The Royal Rumble and the right to face Lesnar three years ago, but it seems that he's gone down a different path this year.

Reigns and Lesnar are set to collide with the Universal Championship on the line and over the past few months, this is the match that has had the most excitement surrounding it. Reigns would equal Hulk Hogan's record with four consecutive WrestleMania main events, if he's able to main event this year, with matches between The Undertaker and John Cena and even AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura both seen as candidates for the final match on the night.

The heart of the matter

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the main event at this year's WrestleMania but seems that according to Paul Heyman on his recent interview with Digital Spy, it will definitely be Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar once again rounding off the show. (Transcript via Ringsidenews)

"Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns is the main event of this year’s WrestleMania because there’s more interest in this match than there is in any other. Period. Exclamation point. That’s the match that sells this show. All these other matches are very intriguing. Each one of them is worthy of insight and preview and speculation. But only one can be the true main event. Only one can be the match that’s listed in the history books as: This was the most important. This drew the attention, this is what we banked on. And on Sunday, April 8, 2018, WrestleMania 34 we are banking on Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns in the main event. That’s no disrespect to anyone else who plays a vital role on this show. It really isn’t."

Heyman even voiced his opinions on the other matches that could have been part of the main event this year.

"AJ Styles versus Nakamura is a fascinating match-up. Ronda Rousey in her debut teaming with a fellow Olympian Kurt Angle against the First Couple of the WWE Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Fascinating match-up on so many different levels. John Cena having called out The Undertaker is of a historic nature that can’t be oversold. And again, what a fantastic thing to speculate about. But there’s only one true main event. And that main event happens to be Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns. If someone else in this time period before WrestleMania can create such interest that the show’s fortune rides on them, then they will replace Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania. But until that happens I think we have enough on our side of the argument to continue the public interest and the public intrigue in this match.”

What's next?

Lesnar is set to be on Raw on Monday night from Atlanta as part of the final show before WrestleMania. This will be the final build between Reigns and Lesnar before their showdown at WrestleMania next weekend.

Author's take

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar's build towards their match at this year's WrestleMania has been intriguing and Heyman is definitely right about the hype surrounding it. WWE has used the outside rumors about Lesnar and his UFC return to their advantage and now it's left the WWE Universe wondering what the outcome of this match will actually be. Lesnar's contract comes to an end soon and this could be his final show for WWE so anything could happen on the night.
