From The Rumor Mill: Possible reason why Drew McIntyre missed The Greatest Royal RumbleĀ

Where was McIntyre on Friday night?
Where was McIntyre on Friday night?

What's the story?

There were a number of shocks and surprises on Friday night as WWE presented a history-making show live from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but many of the WWE Universe noticed that a recent NXT call-up was missing from the main event match.

In case you didn't know...

Drew McIntyre was called up from NXT as part of the Superstar Shakeup and is now part of a tag team alongside Dolph Ziggler, a team that is calling themselves "The Show."

McIntyre is a former NXT Champion after his stint as part of the developmental brand earlier this year and was even part of the main roster for a number of years ago before his release back in 2014. McIntyre has worked his way up through the ranks in WWE over the past few months and finally made it back to the main roster on Monday Night Raw just over a week ago.

The heart of the matter

Dolph Ziggler featured in The Greatest Royal Rumble match alongside 49 other male superstars, but his new tag team partner Drew McIntyre wasn't part of the match since it's reported that the company couldn't work out his visa in time.

PWInsider is reporting that the Scottish superstar missed one of the company's biggest events because he was brought to the main roster so close to the event on Friday night that the company was unable to negotiate his work visa in time for him be part of the show.

What's next?

McIntyre and Ziggler have been taking the Raw brand by storm and will hopefully put together a claim for a shot at the Tag Team Championships in the future.

Author's take

McIntyre's visa could have been worked out ahead of his main roster debut since he spent a long time on the sidelines, but WWE obviously didn't file the paperwork in time if this is the real reason McIntyre wasn't part of the show. It could have been interesting to see Ziggler and McIntyre work together in this setting, but what is done is done and hopefully, McIntyre doesn't miss any other overseas events for the same reason.
