From the WWE Rumor Mill: Here's what Brock Lesnar reportedly told the referee before his match at WrestleMania
What's the story?
Brock Lesnar defeated Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 34 more than a week ago in one of the biggest shocks of the show, but it seems that Lesnar was aware of the outcome of the match before it happened, whilst Reigns wasn't.
In case you didn't know...
Roman Reigns had been pushed towards the Universal Championship for a number of years ahead of the match against Lesnar on April 8th and many of the WWE Universe believed that this would be the most predictable affair of the night with Reigns becoming Universal Champion for the first time.
This obviously wasn't the case and there have been reports of unrest within WWE because of the result, which all seemingly managed to be settled since Lesnar was reported to have signed a new contract with WWE, despite the Champion looking to be heading over to UFC.
The heart of the matter
According to a report from The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original script for the show had Reigns going over and finally winning the Championship with his fifth spear to Brock Lesnar after he bounced off the ropes. Instead, Lesnar caught Reigns and hit an F5 which then finished the match.
The referee was given the heads up when Lesnar entered the ring and told him to:
"make sure to count to three when the shoulders are down,”
This obviously isn't something that a superstar would say if he knew he was losing the match, so Chad Patton did his job and counted the three on Reigns. Michael Hayes was one of the producers who put together the match with Lesnar and Reigns and it is reported that he was backstage and unaware that Lesnar was going over.
Hayes was still under the impression that Reigns was going to win and was said to have been visibly shocked with Lesnar won the match, but it was clear that he didn't go into business for himself.
What's next?
Brock Lesnar's first match since signing his new contract will take place in less than two weeks time as part of the Greatest Royal Rumble Ever in Saudi Arabia where he will defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns in a highly anticipated rematch.
Author's take
There have been a number of varying reports when it comes to the ending of the match at WrestleMania, but it seems that what has happened has now happened and it's time to move forward.
Reigns has another chance to become top dog next Friday night and then WrestleMania 34 will be a distant memory if he is finally able to become the man who defeated The Beast.
