From the WWE Rumour Mill: Kevin Owens to turn on Sami Zayn at The Royal Rumble?
What's the story?
According to a report from Cageside Seats, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens take on WWE Champion AJ Styles at The Royal Rumble on January 28th, and even though the duo is taking on the Champion in a handicap match for the title, it seems that this could be the beginning of a feud between the two "best friends."
In case you didn't know...
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been the best of friends and the most bitter of rivals for the best part of their career. Before Owens came to NXT and first turned on his friend in front of the WWE Universe, El Generico and Kevin Steen had a number of battles all over the world.
It seems that this on-going story between these Zayn and Owens will never be one that comes to an end and WWE once again want to capitalise on this by having the two former NXT Champions feud heading into WrestleMania.
The duo has feuded on NXT and Monday Night Raw so far in their career and was moved over to SmackDown Live together back in 2017. Even though their previous feuds were definitely considered to be show stealers, the duo has never collided at WrestleMania and that could be what the company are looking at this year.
The heart of the matter
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been the best of friends ever since Zayn stepped up and saved Owens from Shane McMahon back at Hell in a Cell. The duo has been up against the SmackDown Commissioner for the past few months and they could be the ones controlling SmackDown Live if they are able to lift the WWE Championship in less than four weeks time.
According to Cagesideseats rumour roundup, it seems that their match against AJ Styles could instead be the beginning of their feud against each other, which would then hopefully allow the duo to face off at WrestleMania for the first time.
What's next?
Sami and Kevin's Royal Rumble match against AJ Styles has already been made official, but since this is the first handicap WWE Championship match that the WWE Universe has seen, the company will need to reveal the rules.
Will Sami and Kevin be co-Champions or is the winner the person that pins the Champion? It's a confusing situation which is why it could lead to the breakdown of their current friendship.
Authors take
Zayn and Owens are either the best of friends or bitter enemies, there is no in-between. Even though Shane McMahon has done a solid job of making the duo look great over the past few weeks, these two stars are so good at being enemies that it seems harsh to waste them as friends. WrestleMania awaits and Sami and Kevin deserve to fight it out on the main stage.\
