From the WWE/NJPW Rumor Mill: Rumor Killer on Vince McMahon being involved with Chris Jericho vs Kenny Omega
What's the story?
Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet revealed on Twitter new details regarding Chris Jericho's plans for his cruise and also dispelled rumours about Vince McMahon's alleged involvement behind Chris Jericho wrestling Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom XII.
In case you didn't know...
Chris Jericho made a shocking appearance via video at NJPW's Power Struggle where he challenged Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12.
Jericho and Omega had a beef on Twitter for a while now. Jericho teased that Omega and he could feud on his cruise, but as we saw on Power Struggle, it was a build towards Wrestle Kingdom.
This came as a huge shock to the wrestling world as it became hard to imagine Jericho wrestling anywhere else but WWE. However, it's clear that he's not under contract to WWE and thus had the freedom to do so.
The heart of the matter
Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet revealed that Jericho had first approached Triple H with the idea of NXT Superstars wrestling on his cruise. However, Triple H reportedly declined this offer.
Satin dispelled rumours of Vince McMahon being involved in Chris Jericho's deal with NJPW. It doesn't come as a surprise, but one would imagine that Jericho would've had a word with Vince prior to making the deal regardless.
Jericho is on good terms with WWE and it would be surprising if he went through with this deal without Vince's word, even if he didn't require the approval.
What's next?
Chris Jericho will be getting back into ring shape for his first appearance for a company not named WWE in nearly two decades. It's definitely going to be the third last or second last match on the Wrestle Kingdom XII.
Author's take
It doesn't come as a surprise at all that Vince McMahon had no involvement. What does come as a surprise, however, is Triple H's refusal to be involved in the cruise with the NXT Superstars. It would have been a brilliant opportunity for WWE do to something absolutely different.
However, Jericho vs Omega is going to be a blockbuster of a match and should help bring a lot of eyes to Wrestle Kingdom this year.
