From the WWE Rumor Mill: Andre the Giant's documentary could end up on the WWE Network
What’s the story?
HBO’s documentary on the late Andre the Giant is set to release on their channel in April, but it might be made available for WWE Network subscribers.
The latest from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter says that the Andre documentary could be on its way to the WWE Network following its initial airing.
In case you didn’t know
The Andre the Giant Documentary will be looking at the career and life of the late WWE Superstar during his time as a professional wrestler and his overall life.
The heart of the matter
Producer credits for the film were attributed to the Bill Simmons Media Group, HBO Sports, and the WWE which could be one of the reasons the documentary might end up on their network.
The documentary trailer included a variety of clips from his professional wrestling career as a performer for Vergne Gange’s American Wrestling Association and the WWF.
Vince McMahon, “Mean” Gene Okerlund and Hulk Hogan are included in the documentary trailer and are expected to be a big part of the documentary especially when discussing his in-ring career.
Andre won no titles in the AWA but won several titles and tournaments in various federations like All Japan and New Japan Pro Wrestling, NWA-Tri State, and the WWF where he became the 11th WWF Champion in history after defeating Hogan on WWF The Main Event 1988.
What’s next?
The documentary is set to be released on HBO on April 10, but there is a premiere showing at the end of March.
There have also been talks of having a screening in New Orleans, Louisiana during WrestleMania weekend, but that is just speculation as of right now.
Author’s take
The Andre the Giant Documentary being added to the WWE Network would definitely work in the company’s favor in their quest to boost subscribers and provide interesting content.
