From the WWE Rumor Mill: Backstage plans for Big Cass after reports of heat from management
What's the story?
Last week, reports emerged that Big Cass was at the receiving end of some heat backstage after he went off script during a recent TV segment. Now, Cageside Seats has speculated on what WWE plans to do with Cass going forward.
In case you didn’t know…
After breaking up with former tag team partner Enzo Amore, Big Cass was set for a push as a singles competitor. However, an unfortunate ACL injury put the big man out of action for eight months.
He returned to the SmackDown brand on the April 17th edition as a heel, attacking AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. The next week, it was revealed that he had attacked Bryan backstage, explaining that he chose his victim because his own return from injury was overshadowed by Bryan's return to in-ring action.
The heart of the matter
After tapping out to Bryan at Backlash, Cass was not present on the fallout episode of SmackDown Live. His absence was attributed to heat from the management for going off script during a segment with the 'little' version of Bryan.
However, WWE now reportedly plan to go ahead with the Cass vs Bryan feud, as they do not have any other feud lined up for Cass, and want to hold off on the storyline between The Miz and Daniel Bryan for now.
What's next?
As mentioned, the former Colin Cassidy was absent from last week's episode of SmackDown Live, but will probably be present this Tuesday night. Bryan failed to qualify for MITB, so another match with Cass at the pay-per-view is a possibility.
Author's take
While I'm all for more creative freedom to wrestlers, it might not be a good idea for the younger rookies to go against backstage directives, as it might impact their careers negatively going ahead.
Maybe the likes of The Rock or John Cena can get away with going off script, but not everyone has the same kind of pull backstage.
