From the WWE Rumor Mill: Baron Corbin's SmackDown LIVE suspension has ended

Baron Corbin’s suspension has lapsed

What’s the story?

Wrestling Inc is reporting that Baron Corbin’s one-week suspension from SmackDown LIVE officially ended on May 03, 2017. The suspension was strictly for storyline purposes.

In case you didn’t know...

Baron Corbin was suspended by Shane McMahon after he assaulted Sami Zayn and a WWE official on Talking Smack one week ago. Shane announced the suspension via a series of tweets after the incident.

Baron Corbin debuted on the main roster at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas by winning the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He eliminated Kane from the match to seal his victory and etch his place in WrestleMania history. Corbin was a mainstay in NXT for years and had memorable feuds with the likes of Bull Dempsey, Rhyno, and Samoa Joe. Before signing with the WWE, Corbin was an NFL offensive lineman with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals. Corbin is also a three-time Golden Gloves boxing champion.

The heart of the matter

Baron Corbin’s exile from SmackDown LIVE ends today. Shane McMahon laid down the law and punished him for one week due to his actions against Zayn and a WWE referee. Throughout the week, Corbin missed two SmackDown LIVE events. The first was Monday’s LIVE event in Stockton, CA, and the second was this week’s SmackDown LIVE TV broadcast in Fresno. Corbin will presumably be at the LIVE events this week and presumably will be on television next week.

What’s next?

Baron Corbin has been a bright spot on SmackDown LIVE since the brand split, and It’s clear he is on the path to be pushed further upon his return. When he returns to television, it makes sense for him to resume his rivalry with Sami Zayn and maybe even start a feud with Shane McMahon. Corbin is an anti-authority heel, and with Shane still being able to go in the ring, a match between the two isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Author’s take

Baron Corbin has been one of my favourite NXT call-ups of the last two years. It’s clear that he is in the good graces of the top WWE brass and will be pushed immediately upon his return to the roster. That is a good thing for the WWE and SmackDown LIVE. Corbin looks like a star, carries himself like a star, and gets better week to week.

The fact that he is already embroiled in a story with Shane McMahon speaks to just how good he’s gotten. Corbin is a future world champion to be sure and will be a staple of SmackDown LIVE for the rest of this year and beyond.
