From the WWE Rumor Mill: Big Royal Rumble and WrestleMania plans changed due to Dean Ambrose's injury
What's the story
WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose was recently taken out of action due to an injury he likely sustained a while ago but he finally got to the point where it needed attention. The once thought to be elbow injury turned out to be a torn triceps that was 50% ripped off the bone. Dr Dugas said the surgery was a success but WWE stated Ambrose's recovery time is going to be around nine months.
That might sound like a long time because it is and this extended absence of The Lunatic Fringe caused WWE to switch up some major plans they had going into Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. Bryan Alvarez went into some detail on Wrestling Observer Live about what kind of strife Dean Ambrose's injury has caused the WWE Creative team.
In case you didn't know...
When someone important like Dean Ambrose goes out of action pieces of the puzzle need to be moved around to create a new picture. But when the missing puzzle piece is as large as Dean Ambrose, some very creative manoeuvring needs to be executed to really pull off the illusion that Ambrose's absence isn't affecting anything larger than his actual role in WWE.
The heart of the matter
Bryan Alvarez started out by discussing how slow and light he views Dean Ambrose's usual style but the strain on his body caused this injury because it was probably a long time coming.
"God bless the guy, he's worked more dates in the entire company for a couple years now. He did more matches than anybody but the body, no matter how slow and soft you work -- I mean the human body can only take so much and unfortuantely, finally he tore his triceps tendon and now he's gonna be out for nine months."
Alvarez went on to discuss how Dean Ambrose's forced hiatus has caused WWE to switch up some big plans rolling into two of the biggest pay-per-view events on the calendar.
"And they had changed Royal Rumble plans, obviously they change plans all the time, well there was an idea for the Royal Rumble in a very prominent position. I know Dave [Meltzer] there were plans for WrestleMania that involved him in a fairly prominent position. Now he's out of action. So, that sucks for him but hey, sometimes you just need a break."
What's next?
If Dean Ambrose waits it out and recovers as projected, he might make it back by SummerSlam next year which would be a good time for him to re-establish himself.
Author's take
I would just love to know what kind of amazing plans they might have had for the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. If The Shield was involved, who knows what WWE was planning?
But the fact is if it did involve The Hounds Of Justice and Roman Reigns is in the main event against Brock Lesnar, then Dean Ambrose's injury could very well have changed the Universal Title match at the Show Of Shows.
