From the WWE Rumor Mill: Daniel Bryan to face Shane Mcmahon?
What's the story?
According to the latest rumour roundup on Cageside Seats, it is being reported that WWE is building towards a Shane McMahon vs Daniel Byan feud.
The current thinking is that even if Daniel Bryan is not cleared by WWE to wrestle, they will have someone wrestle for Bryan instead.
In case you didn't know...
Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan have been running Smackdown together ever since the brand split took place in mid-2016; Shane is the commissioner of SmackDown and Daniel is the GM.
Unlike RAW, where the Commissioner Stephanie MMahon has had tensions with past GM Mick Foley and now the current GM Kurt Angle, Shane and Bryan had gotten along very well up until a few weeks before Survivor Series.
Shane led a group of SmackDown Superstars to raid RAW and put it under siege, much to the dismay of Daniel Bryan; who went to RAW the next week to make amends but was instead attacked by Kane.
Daniel and Shane have been having a tug of war as of late and things don't seem as amicable as they were initially.
Shane McMahon, who has been feuding with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn wanted to fire the two but Daniel Bryan insisted on retaining the two superstars instead.
The heart of the matter
Daniel Bryan has been teasing coming of retirement for quite some time now and it seems the WWE want to go ahead with him facing Shane if that does indeed happen.
Shane McMahon was last seen in action at Survivor Series in the Traditional men's elimination match which was won by team RAW.
It will be interesting to see how this feud goes forward and which of the two fan-favourites would turn heel.
What's next?
Daniel Bryan's status as an in-ring competitor is still up in the smoke and nothing concrete has been decided as of yet. Daniel has stated that a lot of the doctors have cleared him for in-ring competition and he is waiting for the WWE medical staff to do the same.
Bryan has also teased that he might leave WWE in 2018 if he is not cleared to wrestle by the company at that time.
Author's take
I am extremely excited about the prospect of Bryan making his return in-ring, however, I'm not sure if Shane would be the best opponent for his return.
With so many injuries, it would be better for Bryan to go head to head with someone more experienced like AJ Styles or Kevin Owens.
