From the WWE Rumor Mill: Dolph Ziggler signs new WWE contract

Sticking around

What's the story?

Independent wrestler & wrestling podcast personality Bin “The Hacker” Hamin has revealed on the latest edition of The Locker Room Podcast, that former World Champion Dolph Ziggler has signed a new contract with WWE, good for at least 2 years.

In case you didn't know...

At WWE's Night of Champions pay-per-view last December, Dolph Ziggler defeated Bobby Roode and then Champion Baron Corbin for the WWE United States Championship. Just two days later, on the following SmackDown, Dolph bizarrely forfeited the Championship after saying that the fans did not deserve him and placed the title belt in the ring before leaving.

The following week, SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan claimed that Ziggler was nowhere to be found and had indeed vacated his title. Many fans and people within the business had speculated that Dolph may have actually been leaving WWE, but this was untrue as Dolph returned to WWE TV as the #30 entry in the Royal Rumble match, and has since been announced to be making his return to Smackdown on this Tuesday's episode.

The heart of the matter

Bin “The Hacker” Hamin claimed on The Locker Room Podcast that Dolph was pretty much 2 feet out the door before being offered a new 2-year contract, that is apparently worth crazy big money. Dolph has also received a clause in the contract that is very important to him, which is being allowed to take in outside of WWE projects, that won't conflict with his new schedule.

What's next?

Dolph Ziggler will return to Smackdown this Tuesday to face Baron Corbin, where the winner will be added to the WWE Championship match at Fastlane.

Author's take

Dolph is an absolute workhorse and has always been one of the best performers in WWE, so I am glad he is sticking around. While it is true that he could have excelled wrestling elsewhere, he chose what was best for his financial future, and it is also possible that he may receive a better push, as apart of his new contract, upon returning.
