From the WWE rumor mill:  Drew McIntyre injury update

Drew Mc
Drew McIntyre held the NXT Championship for 91 days before losing to Andrade Cien Almas...

What's the story?

Ryan Satin at Pro Wrestling Sheet provided an update on former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre today. He confirmed with his sources that McIntyre will be out of action for a few months.

In case you didn't know...

McIntyre's first stint in the WWE lasted over seven years between Florida Championship Wrestling, NXT, and the main roster. He returned to the WWE after NXT Takeover: Orlando this past April and won the NXT Championship from Bobby Roode at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III from Bobby Roode.

The heart of the matter

Pro Wrestling Sheet confirmed that McIntyre suffered a torn bicep in the NXT Championship match against Andrade Cien Almas at NXT Takeover: WarGames. When Almas went for a move while McIntyre was sitting on the turnbuckle, Drew grabbed the rope to steady himself as Almas performed the move.

They are hoping that McIntyre can return is just before WrestleMania. At the time of this writing, it's not known if he will return to NXT or return to the main roster. With losing the championship at NXT Takeover: WarGames, it was possible that Drew could lose the rematch at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia and then enter the Royal Rumble.

What's next?

It is uncertain what is next for Drew McIntyre as he recovers, but if the plan is to return before WrestleMania, he may aim for the NXT Champion when it comes time for NXT Takeover: New Orleans. Take a look at Drew's tweet from Monday morning.

Author's take

It's an unfortunate injury for Drew as I felt that he was going to make a return to the main roster at the Royal Rumble. He's transformed himself from a joke gimmick like 3MB to a bonafide future world champion. The future is definitely bright for Drew and I hope he has a speedy recovery.
