From The WWE Rumor Mill: Former World Champion was originally scheduled to be Seth Rollins' new tag team partner
What’s the story?
Respected Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer recently reported that WWE had previously considered former Universal Champion Finn Balor to be the new tag team partner for Seth Rollins, following Dean Ambrose’s injury.
In case you didn’t know…
On last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Shield member Dean Ambrose suffered a brutal triceps injury following a devastating assault at the hands of The Bar and Samoa Joe. “The Lunatic Fringe” has since then undergone a successful surgery last Tuesday.
However, it has now been reported by WWE that Ambrose will be sidelined for approximately nine months.
The heart of the matter
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said that the original plan for Seth Rollins was to team him up either Finn Balor or Jason Jardon—WWE eventually going with the latter.
Meltzer believes that Balor was actually in contention to team up with his former long-term rival Seth Rollins on this week’s Raw Tag Title match against The Bar, but WWE eventually decided to go with Jason Jordan instead. Both Jordan and Rollins then went on to defeat Sheamus and Cesaro and became the new Raw Tag Team Champions.
What’s next?
There has been no word yet on if WWE will continue to move forward with a possible Jason Jordan heel turn, but as of right now, it seems like Kurt Angle’s on-screen son will remain babyface for a while and will continue to team up with Seth Rollins as the Raw Tag Champs.
Author’s Take
Personally, I believe that a tag team of Finn Balor and Seth Rollins would have been an absolute dream team. We might have seen the two men team up in the past but seeing them challenge for the Raw Tag Team Titles (and possibly even winning it) would have certainly been huge.
Moreover, Finn Balor has been stuck in the mid-card for the past few months and has been wrestling against the likes of Curt Hawkins, Bo Dallas, and Curtis Axel. Teaming him with Rollins would have certainly been the right choice.
