From the WWE Rumor Mill: Future plans for Greatest Royal Rumble Belt revealed
What's the story?
At the Greatest Royal Rumble, we saw Braun Strowman emerge victorious. He was presented with not just a trophy but also a green belt.
There was much speculation online about what the fate of the Championship would be following the grand event. Cageside Seats reported a rumor that the belt would be discontinued, going forward.
In case you didn't know...
WWE recently went to Saudi Arabia and put on a show for the ages, that was streamed worldwide on the WWE Network. The main event of the evening was a 50-man Royal Rumble featuring some of the biggest stars in the company.
Braun Strowman entered the Rumble at number 41 and quickly eliminated a host of superstars to win the whole thing. The last man to be eliminated was Big Cass from SmackDown Live. Strowman achieved the most number of eliminations in a Royal Rumble match at a total of 13 participants.
The heart of the matter
Cageside Seats reports how the title was shown in graphics for Backlash, but they were all deleted because there are no plans for this particular championship. It was never even mentioned what the name of the title was.
The Greatest Royal Rumble was a unique event in the sense that there was seemingly no payoff for the winner of the said match. The title was probably just symbolic and an accompaniment to the mammoth trophy.
What's next?
Braun Strowman did not receive a reward for winning the Greatest Royal Rumble in storyline. Instead, he teams up with Lashley to take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at Backlash soon. We wonder if these two massive monsters will clash somewhere down the line.
Author's take
I really found it weird when the belt was introduced to Braun Strowman. I am glad it has been discontinued because it was about as useless as the Top 10 list.
There should have been a payoff for Braun Strowman winning the Greatest Royal Rumble, in my opinion.
