From the WWE Rumor Mill: Jinder Mahal could remain WWE champion ahead of India tour
What's the story?
Jinder Mahal is set to face Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE World Heavyweight title at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view but Bryan Alvarez, from the Wrestling Observer Live, claims that “The Maharaja” will not be dropping the title anytime soon.
In case you didn't know...
Jinder Mahal has been involved in a long-drawn feud with the Japanese superstar in recent weeks. The Indo-Canadian Superstar successfully defended his title at SummerSlam, with an assist from “The Singh Brothers”. Unfortunately, his reign as WWE Champion has failed to deliver on a consistent basis.
The heart of the matter
Bryan Alvarez believes that Mahal will not lose to Nakamura at Hell in a Cell, as the WWE has an India tour coming up.
He did, however, speculate that the only way Nakamura would win the title at Hell in a Cell was if the India tour was a network special and Mahal could win back the title in India.
Alvarez also stated that the company wanted to take Mahal as the champion all the way to WrestleMania 34 and the only way that would change was if the boss, Vince McMahon, had a change of heart.
What's next?
Mahal and Nakamura will be facing off at the Hell in a Cell event, and even with the rather racist promo targeted at Nakamura recently, the Japanese star gave out a beating to the trio on the last episode of SmackDown Live.
Author's take
The WWE seems to be really pushing it with their 'Jinder Mahal love affair'. While he isn’t the worst wrestler in the world, he just does not seem to be champion material and it is a surprise why the WWE has stuck with him for this long.
Even if they do keep him as the champion for the India tour or make him win the title in front of the fans, seeing him go into WrestleMania 34 as the champion will certainly be a kick in the gut for most of us.
Hopefully, someone will be able to take the title off his hands soon and maybe SmackDown Live can get a boost that it so desperately needs in terms of attendance and viewing figures.
