What’s the story?

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has addressed the ongoing banter of Kenny Omega being WWE-bound in the near future.

Expounding upon the same, Meltzer insinuated that Omega is likely to stay with NJPW this year, but he could make the transition to the WWE next year.

In case you didn’t know…

Kenny Omega is widely regarded as one of, if not, the greatest professional wrestler today.

‘The Cleaner’ has received widespread praise from both professional wrestling fans and experts around the world for his excellent mat skills and charismatic promos.

The heart of the matter

Kenny Omega performed in WWE’s developmental territory back in the mid-2000s, but rose to prominence after his work in ROH, following which he went on to ascend to the top of the professional wrestling world by working in NJPW from 2010 onwards.

Veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer explained that Omega has indeed made his decision to stay with NJPW all through 2018.

Nevertheless, Meltzer noted that 2019 is an interesting year for The Cleaner’s career, as the belief is that he could potentially sign with the WWE.

Furthermore, Meltzer elucidated that each pro-wrestling performer’s career is different. While some rake in millions of dollars for themselves by working for the WWE, others, in fact, benefit more from a career on the independent circuit. Besides, he added that despite Omega’s credentials and proven success in the indies, his style may not be an appropriate match for the WWE and he may not necessarily succeed in WWE.

What’s next?

Kenny Omega presently performs on the indie pro-wrestling circuit; NJPW in particular.

Omega is set to compete against Cody Rhodes at ROH’s Supercard of Honor XII which takes place at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 7th.

Author’s take

Honestly speaking, Kenny Omega would be a huge success regardless of which promotional banner he competes under.

Omega has all the tools to ascend to superstardom in the WWE, and given that he is considering a move to the Vince McMahon-helmed company in the near future, perhaps a dream match between 'The Cleaner' and 'The Big Dog' could come to fruition.
