From the WWE Rumor Mill: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn likely to return next week
What's the story?
The latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live has reported that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are likely to return to SmackDown Live next week. The two were sent home from WWE's European tour earlier this week, but WOL is speculating that this was down to little more than a miscommunication.
In case you didn't know...
When Sami Zayn shockingly turned heel at WWE Hell in a Cell, aligning himself with Kevin Owens in the process, it seemed as though the two were on the verge of becoming the most important act on SmackDown Live. The Canadian tandem's feud with Shane McMahon was the central story on the show, taking precedence over Jinder Mahal and the WWE Championship.
A month is a long time in professional wrestling, however, and that push now seems to be up in the air. Owens and Zayn were reportedly sent home from WWE's European tour this week, with initial reports speculating that the duo 'went into business for themselves' on Tuesday's episode of SmackDown Live.
The heart of the matter
When news broke that Owens and Zayn had been sent home, it was rumoured that the punishment came after the two decided to veer from the script during the show-opening promo on Tuesday, leaving before they could be attacked by The New Day following Zayn's loss to Kofi Kingston.
WOL has reported that the duo were indeed supposed to come out worse off following a scuffle with Kofi, Woods and E., but Owens and Zayn's swift departure wasn't the duo deciding against that. It was little more than a miscommunication.
The situation is still up in the air, however, but WOL is speculating that they are likely to return to SmackDown Live this coming Tuesday. Owens and Zayn are might be promoted to the show, where they will take on The New Day in tag team action.
What's next?
It is likely that more news will be available about this situation over the coming days. The details are still incredibly murky, with little being known for sure outside of the fact that the two were sent home from the tour.
However, one thing is for sure. The next week's SmackDown Live will be a mighty show.
Author's take
I am hundred percent convinced that this entire thing is a work. The details are so foggy that it seems like a story created in order to make headlines, as well as to further Owens and Zayn's anti-authority storyline. The duo will be back, mark my words.
