From The WWE Rumor Mill: Disappointing Update On Roman Reigns' WWE Return

Roman Reigns will be out of action for quite a while

Roman Reigns will be out of action for quite a while

What's the story?

As earlier reports suggested, Roman Reigns missed TLC after having contracted a viral illness of mumps.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that it is unlikely that 'The Big Dog' will be out of action for long and may be cleared for action before Survivor Series. WWE fans may have to wait a while longer for his actual in-ring return, however.

In case you didn't know...

Roman Reigns was supposed to reunite with his former Shield brethren, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at TLC. They were to face the combined forces of The Miz, Braun Strowman, Kane, Sheamus and Cesaro in a Five on Three handicap Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match.

Unfortunately, due to contracting a viral illness prior to the show, Roman Reigns was unable to appear and the Raw General Manager, Kurt Angle took his place instead. Sadly for the fans, the much-hyped Shield reunion had to be put on hold.

The heart of the matter

According to Ryan Satin, Roman Reigns is not going to be out of action for a lengthy period and will be cleared to return just before Survivor Series.

It is extremely unlikely that he will then immediately be thrown into a match without any proper build. He may be kept off television till at least after Survivor Series.

A big question remains and that is whether WWE will continue with The Shield reunion angle. It was well hyped for a short-term angle and If WWE doesn't make good on their promise, there may be more discontent among the fans.

What's next?

Several Raw stars other than Roman are also out with a similar sickness. Bray Wyatt's absence from TLC meant that he had to be replaced in the Balor match by AJ Styles.

WWE will hope that Roman, Bray and Bo Dallas recover from the illness and make quick returns to the ring.

Author's take

At the moment it seems highly unlikely that Roman will return and immediately be put into the cross-brand PPV. With WWE though, it is impossible to tell, and he may be a surprise last-minute entrant into the Raw Men's team.
