From the WWE Rumor Mill: New match possibly being added to WWE Backlash
What’s the story?
On a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the possibility of another matchup being added to Backlash was discussed.
Apparently, a Cruiserweight title match could be added to WWE’s Backlash PPV that takes place this weekend—further details on which have also been noted.
In case you didn’t know…
The WWE recently put forth two of the 2018 calendar year’s biggest pay-per-view events—WrestleMania 34 and WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble—last month.
In quick pursuit of the Greatest Royal Rumble event, WWE now heads into another dual-branded PPV, as marquee matchups from both the RAW and SmackDown brands transpire at WWE Backlash this Sunday.

One ought to note that the WWE has already confirmed the following 8 matches that are set to take place at Backlash—
1. WWE Championship (No Disqualification Match):
AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
2. RAW Women’s Championship Match:
Nia Jax (c) vs. Alexa Bliss
3. Smackdown Women’s Championship Match:
Carmella (c) vs. Charlotte Flair
4. Intercontinental Championship Match:
Seth Rollins (c) vs. The Miz
5. US Championship Match:
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Randy Orton
6. Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
7. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe
8. Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass
Furthermore, veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer emphasized that WWE may add a Cruiserweight Championship Match between Cedric Alexander and Buddy Murphy to the aforementioned Backlash card.
It’s being noted that WWE recently shot an angle concerning the Cruiserweight title, which in turn further solidifies the speculation regarding a matchup for the title being added to Backlash.

Fans can expect WWE to confirm a Cruiserweight title Match between reigning titleholder Cedric Alexander and number-1 contender Buddy Murphy for Backlash, very soon.
WWE’s Backlash PPV is set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on May 6th.

Honestly speaking, Buddy Murphy and Cedric Alexander are perhaps two of the most underrated athletes in WWE today.
